General Legal Counsel
Growing up in rural Zimbabwe, Sarudzai was struck by some of the economic inequalities and social barriers that limited many young girls and boys the ability to reach their full potential. Although her family was always supportive of her academic pursuits, many of her contemporaries did not have such support and have remained trapped in what seems to be a vicious cycle — little education leading to increased poverty. Sarudzai strongly believes education is an integral part to the well being of an individual, society and the nation as a whole.
Sarudzai worked as a senior state attorney in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in Zimbabwe. Although much of her activities have been related to her field of study, she engages with a broader range of issues of interest to her: for example, she coordinated a joint program between the Zimbabwe Ministry of Justice and Medicins Sans Frontiers that focused on educating the local community about the law as it relates to domestic violence and child abuse issues.
Sarudzai holds a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property Law from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Yeshiva University and a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) Degree from the University of Zimbabwe. She is an active member of American Intellectual Property Organization.
Sarudzai is fluent in English and Shona and understands Ndebele. She enjoys cooking, reading and once in a while catch a Chelsea soccer game on television.
